Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Kuwait is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Driver, job grade S1 to start in 15 October 2022.
Main purpose of the job:
To facilitate diplomatic business by ensuring the safe and secure transportation of Very Important Persons (VIPs), Embassy staff, letters, invitations and documents to various locations within Kuwait, in addition to Protocol duties.
Duties and responsibilities:
Transporting Embassy staff & VIPs
Driving official vehicles and ensuring safe and secure transportation of the Embassy staff and Very Important Persons (VIPs) for appointments, official business and social engagements outside the Embassy.
Prepare for trips to unfamiliar destinations by checking timings and locations in advance
Liaising with the Deputy Head of Corporate Services (DHCS) on diary and scheduling requirements; spotting any potential logistical problems and advising on journey times, and where there are multiple engagements to attend in short order, advising on the most logical route.
Vehicle maintenance, cleaning, registration and servicing
Cleaning and performing basic vehicle maintenance checks (e.g. engine oil, tyre pressure and water) on a daily basis. Sanitisation of the Official Vehicles as per the transport policy.
Ensuring Armoured Vehicles are checked in line with the guidance from the FCDO Estates and Security Department (ESD).
Taking official vehicles to the Traffic Department for tests and submitting paperwork (e.g., car renewal documents and driving license).
Notifying the Deputy Head of Corporate Services when official vehicles require servicing (at regular mileage intervals), and taking official vehicles to the garage to be serviced.
Protocol Duties
Delivery/ collection of letters, invitations .
Protocol responsibilities: renewal of residence permits for staff, checking in luggage at the airport on behalf of VIP passengers to ensure swift transit.
The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Good English language skills, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
Fluency in spoken Arabic and basic comprehension in reading (both spoken and basic reading will be tested at interview).
Previous driving experience, with a high standard of driving skills.
Must have a valid Kuwait driving license.
Knowledge of Kuwaiti traffic rules and road safety, and knowledge of various Kuwaiti locations.
Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
Basic IT skills: use of Microsoft Word and email (Microsoft Outlook) to keep in touch with wider embassy activities.
Resilience and a flexible approach.
Must have a valid Kuwaiti residence.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Previous experience of driving for Senior officials/ VIPs in high-security environments.
Previous experience of driving Armoured Vehicles.

Working Conditions and Remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of KWD 475.840 per month. The package also includes a good level of health insurance and an engaging working environment. Leave entitlement is 30 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This role is for a full-time employment, on permanent contract subject to 90 days probationary period.
Conditioned working hours is 38 hours per week. Embassy working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Sundays to Wednesdays and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out-of-hours. This will be compensated by time off-in lieu or overtime payments.
The Embassy has an active Continuous Professional Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop professionally. The 70/20/10 learning and development model is applied flexibility, with both internal and formal opportunities readily available. In addition, there will be opportunities to complete the Armoured vehicles training and the defensive driving course.
