Senior Consulting Engineer (Design Basis)

Responsibilities:
Under overall direction, you develop long-term client relationships with consulting engineers, owners and design contractors. Maximize account penetration for dedicated accounts by serving the full range of their needs, leveraging Johnson Controls broad portfolio of HVAC systems offerings, including controllers and HVAC equipment. For custom accounts, Johnson Controls strives to become the supplier of choice for HVAC equipment and controls (“Trusted Advisor and Default Specifications” with consulting engineers and design contractors, “Trusted Advisor” with account owners). Ensures customer retention and growth of assigned accounts. Partners with other sales representatives and/or sales agents to maximize profits from accounts by influencing specifications (owners, consulting engineers) and market prices (design build contractors). Effectively teams with internal colleagues and their reps to ensure customer support and satisfaction. Uses sales tools to plan and document progress as well as increase business opportunities on accounts. Educates and supports accounts advisors on a regular basis to gain a basis for design specifications. Achieving quarterly quotas and annual sales plans.
Builds partnership relationships with designated Consulting Engineer accounts to earn Basis of Design (BOD), and influence specification, key account and project strategies to grow our account share across our entire line of HVAC systems offerings. Continuously develops and refines account management plans to achieve this success.
Maintains frequent face-to-face contact with customers who directly influence decisions. Actively listens, probes, identifies and addresses concerns. Understands the client's business and speaks their language. Develops credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment.
Specification continually drives the full range of Johnson Controls offerings with consulting engineers and design contractors, not only earning BOD, but also influencing written specifications to provide value to customers and differentiate from competitors. With assigned owner accounts, continually leads to preference for our offerings, preferred specifications, and decision making.
Leads collaborative teams to follow up on projects with colleagues, based on account assignments, honors split credit guidelines in rewarding teamwork that increases project win rates and profitability.
Develop relationships with internal support, operations and administrative staff to ensure customer satisfaction and issues are addressed quickly. Training and mentors within the sales force to increase customer satisfaction.
Understands the strengths of the JCI system and the weaknesses of competitors and drives opportunities to provide JCI with maximum benefits.
Acts as a team leader or functional leader on projects involving takeoff responsibility, estimation and bid strategy as directed by the Sales Manager.
Utilize subject matter experts from within Johnson Controls to better position and improve our first-line and life-cycle costs for proposed offerings and systems, as needed.
Conduct technical presentations on JCI offerings and position themselves as the subject matter expert for assigned accounts.
Keeps management informed of progress and account status. Promotes management by accounts, such as local, district and/or executive leadership engagement and sponsorship, when and where appropriate.
Effectively uses applicable sales tools (Salesforce CRM, Account Management, Account Plan and TAS) to plan and build pipeline of opportunities and document progress as well as increase account penetration.
Develops a solid understanding of and stays current with industry standards, relevant building codes, and best practices for the design of HVAC equipment and control systems.
Leads the sales team by building and enhancing team relationships to ensure customer satisfaction. Seeks support from internal staff and communicates effectively with them. Develops relationship with owner sales organization to exceed customer expectations. Owns and facilitates the relationship with the client.
Assists in developing team sales and marketing plans and strategies. Assists in implementing these strategies and action plans.
Participates in professional organizations for personal development reasons and building client relationships and industry networks within the local market community.
