Course: ARTF 131 – Drawing StudioCourse descriptionSemester course; 6 studio hours. 3 credits. Enrollment is restricted to first-year fine arts and design majors in the School of the Arts.
This studio-based course explores the historical principles of drawing and their relevance in contemporary practice. It introduces students to core concepts such as line, perspective, gesture, figure drawing, space, atmosphere, and erasure through immersive studio work. Emphasis is placed on developing observation, interpretation, and visual expression through repeated physical engagement with drawing.
The duties of the adjunct instructor are:
Complete all required university training (e.g., FERPA) before the first class session
Provide students with a course syllabus during the first class session that outlines course objectives, structure, requirements, grading criteria, and relevant policies provided by the department chair
Enforce department and university policies in a constructive and professional manner
Prepare thoroughly for each class to ensure effective use of studio time in support of course learning objectives
Coordinate with other faculty members teaching ARTF 131 to ensure alignment with shared departmental learning outcomes and course structure
Hold at least one weekly office hour and maintain availability to students via university email
Assess all assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback
Submit midterm and final grades according to the schedule and method provided by the university registrar Attend departmental meeting once every two weeks
Required Qualifications:
A graduate degree (MFA or equivalent) in a discipline relevant to drawing and studio art
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
