Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain high-end digitization equipment (e.g., Zeutschel OS 14000, DT BC-100 Scanner, i2S SupraScan Quartz A0 HD, Phase One Camera IQ180, Hasselblad X5000, COPIBOOK V-Shape).
  • Digitize 2D materials while ensuring safe handling of rare and fragile items.
  • Perform image processing (color correction, cropping, deskewing, toning, rotation, resolution checks, etc.) using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, ACDSee, ScanFix.
  • Conduct quality control (QC) reviews before and after image processing using tools such as iQ-Analyzer to ensure compliance with standards (FADGI, Metamorfoze, International Organization for Standardization — ISO 19264-1:2021).
  • Execute Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on digitized materials using ABBYY FineReader, Sakhr OCR, etc.; proofread and correct OCR output for accuracy, including Arabic text when needed.
  • Generate and embed structural metadata for digitized items.
  • Package final digital assets for long-term storage and access.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in departmental projects, meetings, and committees.
  • Stay updated with emerging digitization technologies and best practices.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Library & Information Science, Archival Studies, Digital Preservation, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of practical experience in digitization or digital archiving.
  • Technical proficiency in operating and maintaining digitization equipment and workflow systems.
  • Strong knowledge of color management, image formats, image processing, and OCR technologies.
  • Familiarity with international digitization standards (FADGI, Metamorfoze, International Organization for Standardization).
  • Proficiency with relevant software (Adobe Photoshop, ACDSee, ScanFix, ABBYY FineReader, Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to handle delicate historical materials with care.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
