Director of Distinctive Collections

Executive leadership role within Qatar National Library providing strategic direction, oversight and operational leadership for the Distinctive Collections division in support of heritage preservation, discovery, learning and research.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Distinctive Collections division and develop strategic plans and annual workplans aligned with Qatar National Library’s mission.
  • Oversee operations, budget and human resources for the division and continuously improve services and initiatives.
  • Oversee acquisition, processing, organization, cataloguing, preservation, promotion and access for distinctive physical and digital collections.
  • Lead conservation, preservation and heritage-science functions and ensure safe access to collections.
  • Develop events, exhibitions, scholarly conferences and educational programmes that promote research use of the collections.
  • Build collaborations with researchers, museums, universities, donors and professional organizations in Qatar and internationally.
  • Lead and develop the team, supporting high performance, inclusion and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with IT and Cataloging teams on digitization standards, policies, procedures and copyright requirements.

Requirements

  • Strategic leadership capability in distinctive collections, library operations, heritage preservation or a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of collection development, conservation, preservation, digitization and access practices.
  • Ability to lead budgets, operations, teams, partnerships and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
